Went skiing on Saturday with Rob Wetzig at Copper Mountain. Highly recommended!

    Notes to self:

    1) Take camera when going somewhere scenic on a nice day.
    2) Rite-Aid does a piss-poor job of creating photo CD’s.
    3) In fact, my $80 scanner does a better job!
    4) (just for you Priscilla) No sending e-mail after 3 martinis!

Ok – so we’re a bit off track – here are the promised photos from my ski trip.

    Whee – a ski lift

    Whee - a ski lift
Ok – the quality is going to be lacking here, but I’ll do the best I can. This is a “ski lift” – let’s all say it together – “ski-lift”. Got it?

Ok – a “ski lift” takes you up the mountain – if you are lucky. It also provides precisely two opportunities for embarrasing yourself – getting on and getting off. You see, if you fall down during either of these procedures the lift has to stop – and everybody knows who’s fault it is! Finally, it allows you a nice, quiet time to contemplate the ski slope you will soon be tumbling down!

Just for the record, Rob and I didn’t cause the lift to stop once!

With all it’s disadvantages, however, the ski lift is a pretty cool thing. You see, it hauls your lazy ass a few thousand feet up a mountain, where the air is thin, and gets you to views like this.

Oh – and then you get to slide back down the mountain using a pair of waxed boards strapped to your feet – they slide rather nicely on that slipery, frozen water known as “snow”.

You get a lot of time to look around at the top of a mountain – invariably you get stuck somewhere that goes uphill and you have to pole a bit. Since the air is thin (roughly one atom of oxygen per cubic meter) you then tend to stand around trying to catch your breath again.

Did I mention that it gets cold up here? At this point we are at 12,000 feet – that’s right – more than 2 miles up! Actually, it was relatively nice – maybe 10 degrees (f) with a 30mph breeze blowing up the backside of the mountain.

Oh – and do you like my ski jacket? I think it’s a bit loud, but Rob told me he liked it as it made me easy to see. I think he was just being nice, but it was warm – and I found a flask of Bushmill’s in one of the pockets (mmmmm, whiskey…)

Actually, this is just a view from the top of a pass between two mountains – although we are still at 12,000 feet. You can also ski on the mountains in the background – if you are crazy enough. Those are double-black-diamond slopes!

    Gotta have an artsy shot…

And here’s a picture of Rob. What is it with with me having to ski with people that look like muggers? (sorry Rob).

I really do swear this is Rob – not just some random person.

Well, that’s it for the ski trip. On the way back we stopped at the Tommyknocker brewery in Idaho Falls – highly recommended for both the food and the beer!
