Sunday was spent driving back to Boston (starting with an obligatory breakfast at Bob & Edith’s). We took about 10 hours to cover 8 states (Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts) and a district (Washington DC) – traffic sucks on the Sunday after Thanksgiving – especially going into and out of New York City.

This picture was taken specially for Tina – here is the New Jersey location of her favorite store.

Don’t know exactly, but it’s across from the landfill in Jersey – that should narrow it down to half the state or so…

    Jersey Cop

The obligatory road trip shot of a cop – in this case, a Jersey cop. I’m pretty sure we will never know about the URL on the bumper…

    New York City Skyline

    New York City Skyline
    Now that is a skyline!

    Ikea Again

    Ikea Again
And just for good measure I also got a shot of the IKEA in New Haven, CT. This is a truly bizarre building – it “floats” about three stories up on a series of legs that are only 1/3 the width of the building – Ross wondered if they would have to balance the furniture on either side to keep it from tipping over.

    IKEA Again
Here is the building from the side (sorry, didn’t notice the sticker in the window until later). Note the “legs” that hold it up? Bizarre…

I wonder if IKEA stores come pre-packaged and knocked down, but without assembly instructions of any kind?

    Boston at Night

    Boston at Night
And this would be the view of downtown Boston from my hotel room – pretty cool, right? If you ever have to stay in Boston I would highly recommend the Hyatt at the airport – there is a ferry running right into downtown and you get absolutely no airplane noise. Be sure to ask for the rooms on the harbor side.

Well, that’s it for the trip.

Ross and I went to Old Town Alexandria for lunch (I introduced him to the Holy Grail of Beer at The Fish Market) and then did a quick (and very cold) tour of the monuments. After that we went out to Mount Vernon (via a very circuitous route) and proceeded to freeze our tookuses off for something like 97 hours. Fun, but chilling…

Yeah, that would be another part of the vietnam memorial called “the three serviceman’s statue” very original name don’t you think? Would this picture make it “the four serviceman’s statue”? Hmmmm….

Ross and I had a busy day – we went to the Air and Space Museum for a few hours (it was a total madhouse). I only took one shot (you can see the others elsewhere on this site) but I’m sure Ross can provide more.

Fortunately, we didn’t take a lot of photos of the Thanksgiving festivities – let’s just say that we were all very festive and leave it at that :-)

    Mulligan Working Hard

    Mulligan Working Hard
I’m pretty sure that every dog’s idea of heaven runs along the lines of being invited to Thanksgiving – Mulligan must have gained several pounds on Thursday and he was a very happy dog. Well behaved, too…

    The Turkey
This is the turkey before I got to it with the carving knife(?) – quite spectacular, no? Tasted good, too, thanks to Tina’s basting :-)

Aww, look how nicely Mulligan is waiting for his turn!! ;)

    Guinness Hat

    Guinness Hat
Dermot brought over two Guinness hats (I think he had to drink 10 pints for each – in an evening) which were a great hit. That would be Gerylee under the hat (and probably also under the influence).

So, is Clish doing her own unique version of “I’m a little teapot” ???

    Now it’s Clish’s Turn

    Now it
I’m not sure what was going on here and I am really sure I don’t want to know…

Ross and I spent Wednesday morning and afternoon driving down to DC. In the process we went through 6 states (Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia) and one district (Washington, District of Columbia) in 6.5 hours. We only got lost once and actually managed to make it to Georgetown in time to pick Tina up from work – I was quite proud of my navigation.

    Obligatory Cop Car Photo

    Obligatory Cop Car Photo
This would be a Connecticut cop car of some sort. I don’t think he had a URL on the bumper.

    Whew!

    Whew!
The first hour or so of our trip was spent driving around random back roads – or at least it seemed that way. Then Ross managed to find a freeway and away we went. This sign gives you a good reason to not go driving around random back roads in CT.

    George Washington Bridge

    George Washington Bridge
This would be the only picture I took of the George Washington Bridge. Whee!

    Leaving the GW Bridge

    Leaving the GW Bridge
As you leave the George Washington bridge (and enter New York) you see this lovely display of signs. Fortunately, traffic moves along quite slowly so you have time to figure out which exit you are missing.

    Jersey Landfill

    Jersey Landfill
No, not all of New Jersey looks like this, but I did feel obligated to provide a nice shot of a very large landfill off in the distance. Aren’t you glad I do these things?

    Tow Truck

    Tow Truck
Now this is what I call a tow truck! I’m not sure what, exactly, this device is used for but I suspect that it could haul something a lot larger than a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup truck – like maybe a tank or a medium sized cargo plane.

    Entering Delaware

    Entering Delaware
I think we spent a whole 15 minutes in Delaware, but this was the entry shot. Gotta love a good bridge…
